Frequently asked questions

Does it smell like beef?

No. Our tallow comes from suet, which renders into a clean fat with almost no smell. What you’ll notice is the essential oils. Wild Roman Face Moisturizer is scented with sandalwood, bergamot and lavender. Wild Roman Body Moisturizer uses eucalyptus and bergamot. There’s no synthetic fragrance in either.

Does tallow clog pores?

For most, no. It's low on the comedogenic scale and contains many of the same fatty acids found in your skin's natural oils, so it absorbs well and supports your skin barrier without feeling greasy.

How long does a jar last, and how should I store it?

With daily use, a jar of Wild Roman Face Moisturizer lasts about 6-8 weeks. On the other hand, a jar of Wild Roman Body Moisturizer lasts about 3-4 weeks for full-body use or 5-7 weeks for dry spots only. Unopened, both keep for 2 years. Once opened, they are best used within 6 to 12 months.

Store the jars somewhere cool and out of direct sunlight. Grass-fed tallow can solidify in cooler temperatures. If the texture firms up in the jar, simply mix with your finger to bring back a whipped texture.

Will it work for my skin type?

Tallow works best on normal, dry, and combination skin. If your skin runs oily, use less and apply it at night.

Wild Roman Body Moisturizer contains sweet almond and coconut oils, so check the full ingredient list if you have a nut allergy. If your skin is sensitive, patch-test first on a small area, like the inside of your wrist.

Where does your tallow come from?

Our tallow comes from grass-fed cows, and only from the suet, the firm fat around the kidneys.

How does shipping work?
